Hip Pain treatment at Med Wellness
Understanding hip pain

Hip pain can come from the joint itself, the muscles and tendons around it, or be referred from the lower back — which is why an accurate diagnosis matters so much. Pain felt in the groin often points to the joint, while pain on the outside of the hip is frequently tendon or bursa related.

Common causes include gluteal tendinopathy, bursitis, hip impingement and early osteoarthritis. Because the hip carries your body weight with every step, problems here quickly change the way you walk, which in turn loads the back, knee and other side — so addressing it early prevents a cascade of secondary issues.

We identify the true driver of your hip pain and treat it with a combination of hands-on therapy and a carefully graded strengthening program that restores stability, mobility and pain-free movement.

Common causes

  • Gluteal tendinopathy or trochanteric bursitis (outer hip)
  • Hip impingement or labral irritation (groin pain)
  • Early osteoarthritis of the hip joint
  • Weakness in the gluteal and deep hip muscles
  • Referred pain from the lower back

Signs & symptoms

  • Pain in the groin, outer hip or buttock
  • Stiffness and pain getting going after sitting or sleeping
  • Discomfort lying on the affected side at night
  • A limp or altered, guarded walking pattern
  • Pain with stairs, deep squatting or crossing the legs
Our approach

How we treat hip pain

A clear, step-by-step path from settling your symptoms to lasting recovery — tailored to you at every stage.

01

Locate the source

We assess the hip, back and pelvis together to determine whether your pain is from the joint, the tendons or referred from elsewhere.

02

Settle the irritation

Manual therapy, load management and targeted techniques reduce the immediate pain and let irritated tendons and bursae calm down.

03

Build hip strength

A progressive glute and hip-stability program is the cornerstone of lasting recovery, restoring control and offloading sensitive structures.

04

Restore your stride

We retrain your walking pattern and gradually return you to the activities — walking, stairs, sport — that matter to you.

What to expect

Tendon and bursa-related hip pain responds well to a patient, progressive loading program — it rewards consistency rather than rest. Most people see steady gains over several weeks.

For hip arthritis, physiotherapy can substantially reduce pain and keep you active and independent, and is the recommended first-line management before any consideration of surgery.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about hip pain and how we treat it.

Why does my hip hurt more at night?

Lying on the side compresses the outer hip tendons and bursa, a classic feature of gluteal tendinopathy. We'll show you positioning strategies that help you sleep.

Is walking good or bad for hip pain?

Generally good, in manageable amounts. We'll help you find the right dose so you stay active without flaring the hip.

Can physio help hip arthritis?

Yes — strengthening and activity are the most effective non-surgical treatments for hip arthritis and can delay or avoid the need for surgery.
